Greek Independence Day

The Greek Independence Day Parade is usually celebrated on the fourth Sunday of March.  Greek Independence Day commemorates the start of the War of Greek Independence in 1821 in which Greece won its independence from the Ottoman Empire.  The holiday coincides with the Feast of the Annunciation.  It is a public holiday in Greece and Cyprus. The parade takes place along Alternate US 19 and ends on the Sponge Docks, where a festival follows.
